Am i being weird by doing this?

I want to go to fashion and textile collage after i finnish high school , I am in 5th year (scotland) and i am staying on till 6th. I decided to get a notebook and fill it up with different materials with prints and patterns on it or nice different textures , i rade charity shops for material and make my self new cloths all the time , at the school charity day I made my own costume and people thought i bought it , but when i told them it was hand made they somehow looked down on me ... then i showed people my book (bad idea) because now everyone thinks I am like some crazy person and they are going about making sleigh comments !:/ , is this weird and should i stop? , and will it be no use to me when i grow up? thanks , no silly answers please :) x
