Dear Hindus and Buddhists,please help?

Reading about the benefits of giving Dana and giving,I started giving food,drinks,clothings perfumes etc to the suitable recipients such as the priests of my own religion.The benefits of giving dana is that you will be rich.The Law of Giving and Receiving also preach the same concept.Therefore,I would like to ask you that am I doing the right thing by giving perfumes,food etc to become rich in life.Will I actually become rich.Its been a year now,and I didnt feel any richness or prosperity coming into my life.
