Question about vacation to Chicago for you Chicago or former Chicago residents...please read...?

Got a great rate at the Blake $625 for 4 nights w/free parking (we will have rental car). Bringing two kids and hotel has no pool and sounds like the free breakfast is minimal. Thinking of booking hotel by Midway instead (one with pool) and taking train downtown for the two days we have planned to tour city (taking Gray Line bus tour). Car would stay at hotel, take hotel shuttle to airport and take train downtown. Do you think messing with public transportation is worth the hle or should we just stay at The Blake and deal with no pool and have nothing to do one whole day while hubby and older son is at Cubs game. What is best way to get to Wrigley from either? Would love some help with this!
